Featured Speaker: Sophia Ansari

Decolonizing Yoga: Stories of Transformation

Sophia is an UKCP accredited psychotherapeutic counsellor and a Yoga teacher-therapist (BWY dip, Ayurveda therapy dip). She has been teaching for 20 years and has since acquired further professional training in mindfulness, authentic movement, somatic psychology and polyvagal-informed movement psychotherapy for trauma. She also has a Masters in History from SOAS (School of Oriental & African Studies). Sophia is in private and community practice in Cardiff, Wales offering yoga therapy and somatic psychotherapy to individuals and groups. She also runs diversity and resilience training for yoga teachers and mental health professionals. Sophia is of mixed heritage (Spanish, French, Indian) woman of Colour,  a mother to 3 children, a Sufi story teller and an advocate for reproductive justice.

Featured Speaker: Crystal McCreary

Our Stories Are Creative and Need to be Seen, Heard, Told, Felt

Crystal McCreary is a yoga and mindfulness educator, speaker, and writer. She has practiced yoga to cultivate wellbeing for the last 20 years and during a career in education that spans 15 years. Crystal is committed to supporting children, adolescents and adults by creating loving and brave spaces to connect, heal, learn, build resilience and equity in a world that often fractures the inherent wholeness of body, mind, and heart. She implements yoga and mindfulness programs within schools and organizations committed to fostering compassionate communities and sustainable work environments. Her work enhances wellness initiatives through professional development, trainings, public classes, yoga retreats, and mindful travel in partnership with Blue Zaria internationally. Crystal’s programs emphasize the importance of self-care as the gateway to social justice and community healing in the world. They are inclusive and adaptive, trauma-informed and accessible for diverse populations of students.

Crystal participates as a consultant and lead teacher for research studies on yoga and mindfulness conducted by CUNY-Hunter’s public health department. She was also proud to serve on the Yoga Alliance Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility Advisory Committee during the revising of the Yoga Alliance teacher training standards in 2018. She is contributing faculty for Mindful Schools, and continues to lead kids yoga and mindfulness teacher trainings for New York based Little Flower Yoga and Bent on Learning. Crystal teaches yoga and mindfulness in special education classrooms, with Lineage Project to incarcerated youth, at The Dalton School, and in public workshops for adults in New York City. Crystal graduated from Stanford University with a BA in African and African American studies and completed The American Conservatory Theater’s Master of Fine Arts program in Acting.
