Separation and Healing: Honoring the Heart of Yoga

Featured Speaker: Simran Uppal

Simran is a yoga teacher, teacher trainer, activist, kirtan leader, Barbican Young Poet, and founder of the UK's first theatre collective of queer people of colour, Coriander Theatre. London born and based, they run workshops on decolonisation, racial and queer equity, and cultural sensitivity across Europe. Their research involves decolonising yoga in the broadest sense possible, across receptions of postural, bhakti and kirtan, and tantric lineages and practices, often taking care not to miss the decolonisation of gender and queerness, economic exploitation, and the pressing contemporary violence of Hindu nationalism. They have ties with Yoga Quota in Oxford (where they run a Queer Yoga Space and recently graduated from the University), Plum Village, and their family's own Sikh tradition.

Savitri began her journey as a 25 year old housewife praying for truth and understanding for the incomprehensible events of her life. When she was 11, a serious head injury put her in a coma. As a teenager, she was orphaned with the sudden death of both her parents in a plane crash. A few years later, while she was majoring in computer engineering, she experienced the murder of her sister, and shortly thereafter her best friend died of AIDS. This led to life-threatening illnesses and near-death experiences. Her sincere desire for truth steered her to find true love within and discover, refine, and practice Heartfull® Meditation. Since 1995, it has become her life’s work to share Heartfull Meditation worldwide. This unique meditation focuses on the Heart Chakra and the power of love and light. Savitri is the founder of Heartfull® Meditation & Lifestyle, Alive & Shine® Center, and the Purna Yoga College®. She delights in sharing her wisdom so that others may live a truly heartful life. She is blessed with her musical daughter, Zenia (zenia.com). Learn more at and www.Heartfull.life, www.AliveAndShineCenter.com and www.AliveAndShineFoundation.org.
